New Gear Saturday Run

New Gear Saturday Run

Taking the advice of some of the people on the Boston Marathon Facebook page, I did my first run with my Coros Pace 3 Watch.  I had been using my Apple Watch Series 8 but I found that it had these limitations:

  1. It stopped recording when it thought that I had taken the watch off because the watch seemed to leave my wrist when it was bouncing around.  This led to too many runs where I had incomplete data.
  2. The battery began to run out on long runs when I was using the watch both for music and navigation.  Two hour runs are the maximum and given that I’m starting to do longer training runs this is a non-negotiable.

The Coros has 3 weeks of battery power.  The GPS is better than the Apple Phone, or at least the program uses the GPS better.  It has seemingly infinite flexibility about display of running metrics.  So far I like it.

Second, I did my first run with my Puma Deviate Nitro 3.  I got these in 9.5 which is a half size larger than usual for me but they are a 42.5 European which is what I take and they fit perfectly.  They are cushiony and bouncy.  They just freaking look fast.  Lastly, What is this thing in the back? ... it looks like a freaking weapon...  I think fighting chickens have these...

They are 259 grams versus my current Sauconys 295 grams, 14% lighter.  I plan to only wear them for races, but I will wear them a couple more time to tune in the socks and lacing.

Today’s run was an easy 3.1 on the 5K of Perpetual Suffering Course.  Here are the numbers:

Distance: 3.10

Duration: 37m 28s

Pace: 12:03/mile

Elevation Gain - 325 Feet

Mostly I tuned into how I felt running in the Pumas.

But I was also really loving the playlist today.  Here it was:

  • Lie In Our Graves - Dave Matthews Band
  • Hot Fun - Stanley Clarke
  • Little Martha - Allman Brothers Band
  • Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond
  • Grazing in the Grass - Hugh Masekela
  • Freddie Freeloader - Miles Davis, Cannonball Adderley, John Coltrane, Winton Kelly, Paul Chambers
  • Everlong - Foo Fighters
  • Back in Black - AC/DC
  • The Way it Is - Bruce Hornsby and the Range
  • Black or White (Single Version) - Michael Jackson
