After a storage tank in the North End ruptured, a 23 foot tall tidal wave of molasses cascaded down the streets killing 21 people and several horses. Some people swear that you can still smell the sticky stuff to this day. Think of that when you are running the Boston Marathon and have some respect the next time you see a bottle of molasses.
